Meet Ilana

How long have you been at Holly Hedge?
Not sure! But over 10 years at least I think.

What made you choose to join Holly Hedge?
I’ve always loved animals, and have always wanted to help the most needy animals in some way. I started off volunteering at the sanctuary and saw how dedicated and passionate their staff are and wanted to be a part of the team. And it didn’t take long until I was!

What is your role here?
I’m dog lock up staff now, so I take the dogs out in the evenings for a walk before bed time and tuck them up in bed and make sure they’re happy overnight. I also give any medications or extra feeds needed.

What is your favourite thing to do here?
When all the dogs have been out for walks and it gets quiet and I can just sit and cuddle dogs in their kennels. That’s my favourite part. Also when I get the chance to pop in at the end of the night and say hello to the cats (and any other animals we may have!)

What are you doing to keep away quarantine boredom?
I’m still doing my work at Holly Hedge during the quarantine (I’m actually doing extra!) and also still doing work for the University of Bristol researching the virus. Other than that I’ve been baking, doing yoga and watching a lot of Disney!

Tell us your favourite joke.
I don’t trust stairs. They’re always up to something
