Please adopt Phoebe (Romanian Crossbreed)

Meet beautiful Phoebe, a young Romanian crossbreed. Phoebe originally came to us back in July 2021 after someone had bought her over from Romania and she was struggling to adapt to their environment. Having likely never lived in a house before she was transported to the UK. So it is understandable as to why she struggled to adjust to life in a home, as it can be very overwhelming for such a young dog.

Unfortunately Phoebe has been returned to us due to biting in the home. These bite incidents have usually been when something has startled Phoebe from sleeping or if she has felt very uncomfortable.  Therefore we are looking for experienced owners who are able to read her body language. People who identify when she is feeling uncomfortable. Ideally, Phoebe will need her own room to sleep in as this will prevent her from biting someone if she is startled whilst sleeping. This room can also be her safe space that she can retreat to if she is feeling worried. This will hopefully help her feel happier and more settled in the home.

Phoebe is such a sweet girl and can be very affectionate once she knows you. She loves a gentle fuss and bum scratches too! But she must be given the opportunity to move away when she has had enough. Phoebe walks really nicely on the lead and is good with most dogs out and about on walks. She has quite a few doggy friends here at the sanctuary and is good with them both on and off the lead. She loves having a good run around in our secure field and always makes sure to show us her best grass rollies too!

Phoebe is super smart and loves doing various enrichment activities and learning new things. This is a great way to keep her mind busy and to help her to de stress after walks too.  So her new home should be able to offer her a good balance of physical exercise and mental stimulation to help her thrive.
Phoebe sometimes freezes and will lie down when she sees another person or dog out and about. She struggles with a bit of inner conflict as she’s unsure as to whether she wants to approach the other person/dog. However, if she is given the right space, she will happily watch them go past and then move on when she’s ready. Or she will make the choice to greet them and move on once she’s said a quick hello. She has been taken off site for walks on a few occasions which she has loved. She makes some really good choices out and about if she is given the right space to do so.

We are looking for a home that can help her with this and recognise when she’s a little stuck and may need some help to move on. A home where she has access to a quieter area is ideal….

To apply for Phoebe, please email  [email protected]   stating your current situation & working hours and reasons for wanting to adopt her.  Please note, we can only accept applications that match her needs.  Therefore, please also consider if your work hours and situation will still be suitable on a long term basis.  Thank you.
