Please adopt Buster (Jack Russell Terrier)
Meet lovely Buster, who is looking for a home due to a change in circumstances. Buster is your typical Jack Russell, who loves his walks and having plenty to do. He is super smart and loves various enrichment activities to keep his mind occupied. He also loves playing with his toys.
Buster does have quite a strong prey drive. However, he is very food motivated so is easily distracted and consistently makes good choices to engage with you. Buster is an anxious boy and needs a routine to help him feel safe and comfortable. Here at the sanctuary, he has his own little routine that is predictable which gives him confidence and security, as he knows what to expect. Buster would do best in a calm, quiet home with someone around most of the time. He would love this, as he does suffer with separation anxiety.
Here at the sanctuary, we have found that he can be left provided that he’s had a walk and is given activities to do when you leave him to keep him occupied. This ensures that all his needs are met and that he is in a good headspace to cope with some time alone. However, this is something that his new owners will need to be prepared to work on with him as he settles back down to life in a home.
Buster is not keen on other dogs and therefore he will need access to walks where there are not many dogs about to avoid him getting stressed. He also finds it very overwhelming meeting new people. Therefore a quiet home with no visiting children would be beneficial. With proper introductions at his own pace, Buster has made lots of human friends here at the sanctuary. Once he knows someone, he is very affectionate! Once you have a good relationship with Buster, he will look to you for reassurance, so Buster will need multiple meets to establish a good relationship with his new owners before going home.
Being an anxious boy, Buster is quite sensitive to sounds and fast movement. Bikes and motorcycles have made him worried in the past. He also really struggles with travelling in the car, so a home where you can walk from the house away from these triggers would be ideal whilst these issues are worked on with him. We have been muzzle training Buster which is going well and he’s been making good progress. This will enable his behaviours to be worked on and will help him to make better choices when he feels anxious.
To apply for Buster, please email [email protected] stating your current situation & working hours and reasons for wanting to adopt him. Please note, we can only accept applications that match his needs. Therefore, please also consider if your work hours and situation will still be suitable on a long term basis. Thank you.
