Veterinary costs appeal – Hunter

Hunter

Bulldog, Age 1

Hunter arrived at Holly Hedge as a four-month-old puppy in very poor health.

Both his eyes were affected by cherry eye requiring surgery, his nostrils too narrow and an elongated soft palate requiring BOAS surgery, and his nasal skin folds were infected. Hunter was also found to have a heart murmur and an undescended testicle. He has been referred to and seen by a cardiologist.

Despite Hunter’s medical issues, he is a happy puppy and described by his fosterers as very cheeky and full of energy!

History

Came into HH in a very, very poor state – owner couldn’t afford surgery.

Veterinary Notes

Bilateral cherry eye, nostrils too narrow, surgery needed as breathing difficulties. Skin fold bacterial infection on nasal planum (outer nose), elongated soft palate, surgery needed. 4/6 systolic heart murmur, intraabdominal undescended testicle. All need addressing surgically but need to evaluate nature and seriousness of heart murmur as has not improved at all with time. Referral to Cardiologist for heart scan.

Lump under chin, grown in last month. Not bothering but brought in by fosterer for check. Doing well in self, skin already better after 1 bath. Had scan of heart at specialist – inoperable hole in heart found, prescribed sildenafil but some side effects so stopped.

Very friendly! Membranes pink, moist. Cherry eye as before. Ears clear. Lump under chin raised, pink, blueberry sized. Mobile and within skin. Suspect histiocytoma, (benign skin tumour) can sample if continues growing but will likely regress over 6-8w. Take photo of it and monitor. Re-ex if bigger/infected/bothering Hunter.

Been dripping blood since 6.30 am from penis, looks like urethral prolapse. Fosterer says has u+ clear U+ no issues. Admit to monitor. Will speak to Holly Hedge about referral to specialist – already due there for bilat cherry eye surgery. Specialist found 1 undescended testicle, unable to find other. To blood test in 3 months to see if testosterone present. If so, will need to operate again.
