Veterinary costs appeal – Rocky

Rocky

Neapolitan Mastiff, Age 2

Rocky arrived at Holly Hedge with cherry eye and inflamed skin causing hair loss.

He underwent cherry eye surgery but unfortunately required further surgery with an ophthalmic specialist as the condition reoccurred.

He has required various treatments to get his skin condition under control.

Now adopted, Rocky is happy in his forever home.

History

Owner unable to manage medical condition – came in with cherry eye and bad skin.

Veterinary Notes

Skin much improved on cephalexin (antibiotics) and malaseb baths, but severe Diarrhea with blood and mucous. Fine in himself. Start BID prokolin, salazopyrin and decrease ceph dosage. Initially with addition of prokolin and sulphalazine plus change in dosage may need to stop antibiotics all together – which would be a shame as his skin is responding so well. Dispensed: Sulfasalazine 500mg (112) (per tab) (Give 1 tablet(s)every 8 hours for 5 days

Skin check – doing well – hair growing back. L eye cherry eye booked in.

Cherry eye surgery

Post Op Check cherry eye – looking good, can only get chloramphenicol eye drops in. No sign of infection, third eyelid still red, eye fully open. Cont. chloramphenicol 2 more days so has had 1 weeks worth.

Nail clip. Smells yeasty, start twice weekly malaseb baths.

Cherry eye left eye has been repaired surgically but is now popping in and out. Advise record how long in and how long out, talk to vet next week regarding repeat surgery.

Cherry eye has reoccurred – refer to eye specialist for review correction.

Post Op Check cherry eye – swelling settling down well -cont. Metacam and chloramphenicol, on trazadone as quite hyper start gaba as destroying buster collars (has been through 11!)

2 weeks post op for cherry eye, just on lubricant. Looks good, minimal swelling. Comfortable and open, no squinting or rubbing. Stop lubrication now and monitor closely.
